Weekend

Saturday 3/28- 2 hours basketball

Sunday 3/29- 20 miles bike ride in 70 minutes (17.3 mph average). I made it all the way to Reston and topped out at 30.8 mph. I love having a speedometer! Followed by 3.3 mile run in about 28 minutes (whenever I run following a bike ride my left leg is numb for a little while, but then it gets better, so I assume there are no problems).

Monday 3/30- 5 mile run, 45 minutes.

PS- My dad warned me that the incidence of heart attacks during triathlons is twice as high during the swim as at other times. This is because people are not used to the cold open water and the extra contriction of their heart causes an attack. This leads to 2 lessons: 1) don't get stressed out and/or work to hard at the begining of the swim; and 2) do some open water. I am going to get in touch with the guy who has a lake house and see if we can swim there again sometime, maybe as a group. Meg, want to come down for a weekend of outdoor swimming?

So, its been a while...

Thursday 3/19- 4.3 miles, 40ish minutes

Friday 3/20- 8.7 miles, 73 minutes, 36 seconds (8:24ish pace. I was really excited about this one because I thought I did 9 miles, meaning 8:11 pace, but alas I misjudged. Oh well. I am ready for the Cherry Blossom in 10 days though).

Saturday 3/21- Bike 10 miles (45ish minutes), 120 minutes basketball, Bike 10 miles (50ish minutes)

Sunday 3/22- Mini-tri: Swim 1700 yards (30 minutes), bike 12 miles (50 minutes), run 3 miles (25 minutes)

Monday 3/23- Lazy, right calf hurts a little, got leg massage from Whitney

Tuesday 3/24- Up in time to run 6 miles. Wear only T-shirt and shorts. Very cold outside (unknown to me), plus Baxter stops about 10 times in first mile. Never get warm and turn around: about 3 miles, about 30 minutes.

Monday, March 23, 2009

Monday, March 23 - Spin, 35 mins

Sunday, March 22, 2009

Sunday, March 22 - treadmill - 3 miles/8:49 pace

Tuesday, March 17, 2009

So, confirmed the elbow is not broken, although the doc acknowledged that it is in fact a very impressive color:)

Yesterday: 45 minutes spin, followed by 1 mile run at 8:35 pace

I think Monday marks 20 weeks to the race, btw...

Different type of workout

3/17: 3.3 miles, 26 minutes, 40 seconds. (just beating 8 minutes/mile)

Decided to go short and fast today (maybe because I was running late). My actual time was 30 minutes 40 seconds, but Baxter stopped a lot on the way out. In fact, we went out in 17:23 and back in 13:17 (with another pee stop on the way back), so I feel comfortable dropping the 4 minute differential and saying I would have done 26:40 without him.

Monday, March 16, 2009

Lots of things

1) My workouts:
a) Saturday: 3.3 mile run, 27 minutes. 5.2 mile bike, 20ish minutes. 3 mile run, 24 minutes (finish with 6:49 mile! fastest ever!). 2400 yard swim, 42 minutes. Bike Ballston to Dupont, 23 minutes. Play basketball for 60 minutes. Total calories burned: approximately 3600.

b) Monday 3/16- 6.3 miles, 57 minutes

2) Why 4.5 miles is a hump: It is about waking up. I can't make myself role out of bed before 6:05. The distance is fine, but I want every day to be more like today, an hour jog in the morning, not 40 minutes. I am calling today the start of a trend. 5:40 wake-up calls all around!

3) We have 2 cabins reserved. Don't know the details, but I think each one sleeps about 9-10 and has its own bathroom. It will be crowded but clean. Whitney picked them out, so they can't be that bad. Meg, you have a spot (W was counting you when she booked). I think the cost is about $30/person/night (about $90-100 total).

4) So, you made light of your bike accident on here. I thought it was just hunny ha-ha, meg had a wreck and needed a new wheel. Talked to Chandrika last night though, you are apparently all fucked up. Go to a doctor. Get better. You have to do this, it was your hair-brained idea in the first place!

J out.

What's the hump? 4.5 miles sounds ok to me.

I haven't done anything this week. My elbow is all purple. It worries me a little. I might go back and get the guy to do xrays on the elbow, too. Shoulder not broken, but elbow still hurts.

Mmm... Don't really have anything to report!

What's the story with housing at this point? Did we ever do anything with those cabins?
4.5 miles, 39 minutes. I have to get up a few minutes earlier and get past this hump.

Wednesday, March 11, 2009

Tuesday: 4.4ish miles, 36 minutes. I keep telling myself not to run with the army ranger neighbor, but do it anyway. 28 hours later I still feel it. Also, I don't like the way my calves are getting stronger. They are bigger and make me look fat.

delayed

Sorry i haven't been here in a while. I didn't do much last week, and the week before I couldn't figure out how to get back to the posting place. I did a few runs last week. Saturday I did only 1 mile run, then swam for 45 minutes, then biked all afternoon on the tandem.

Today I ran 2 miles, lifted for 30 minutes, and biked for 20.

My shoulder is getting stronger. I did a few new exercises today. We'll see how i feel tomorrow.

Excited about the bike.

also went to the shoe store. They did the whole foot analysis thing. Ended up buying the shoes that they described as moon shoes b/c they have so much padding.
Yay for bike-buying!

In other good news, the doc says my shoulder isn't broken or torn or anything, and that i can do anything that doesn't hurt. So that's nice:) I took Sunday and today off, but hopefully will be back in the saddle tomorrow if it's better.
I have not abandoned you meg. In fact, I wrote a whole post last week about how hard it is to post (because I don't know the difference between a blog and a post and I always accidentally push "create blog" thinking I am posting). Oddly prophetic that that post was the one to get eaten. It probably said that I went about 4.5 miles in 40 minutes. Since then:

Wednesday 3/4: Bought bike, it will be delivered on Tuesday 3/10 (yea!)

Thursday 3/5: (this would have been 4.5 miles in 40 minutes)

Friday 3/6: 6.3 miles in 58 minutes (wore dog out, he is getting lazy)

Saturday 3/7: Big day: 6.6 miles in 59 minutes (dog really tired), swam 2400 yards (6x400 on 7:00 per 400), played basketball for 90 minutes, walked 9 (really short) holes of golf, got drunk and starting picking people up and throwing them over my shoulder.

Sunday 3/8: very sore (see 3/7). Only walked dog. But, I slipped on some of those round spikey balls that fall from trees. Head over heals, dog poop flying everywhere. Now even more sore than when I woke up.

Monday 3/9: Dog is super lazy, I am super sore. He stops approximately 12 times in a 36 minute 3.3 mile rule (this route is usually 28 minutes. Lazy bastard).

Saturday, Mar. 7 - bike - ~15 miles/~1 hour

(with a little break at mile .5, when I flipped over my handlebars in the middle of third avenue and had to stop and get a new front wheel -- guess i need to work on my bike handling skills and/or NYC needs to work on those potholes.)

Thurs., Mar. 5 - 50 min spin class

Has everyone abandoned this thing? Unrelatedly, and to provide further evidence of my dorkdom, are any of you guys fans of battlestar galactica? It's my new thing. I'm kind of obsessed.

Tues., Mar. 3

First of all, please note that it is SQUARE ROOT DAY. 3.3.09. It only happens 9 times a century. It's a PRETTY BIG DEAL.

Also, I did 2 spin classes in a row -- about 100 minutes.
